About Taupo Winter Festival: The inaugural Taupo Winter Festival will be held over the July School Holidays Thursday 14th – Sunday 17th July and will be a celebration of the arts, culture and a whole lot of fun!
With world class theatre, comedy and music shows, art exhibitions and creative play, and plenty of free fun stuff for the kids, we’re sure everyone will have a blast at the Taupō Winter Festival. You can read more about the event at www.taupowinterfestival.co.nz.
Art of Winter Competition
We want to include locals as much as possible for all aspects of the festival, and invite you to participate in our ‘Art of Winter’ competition (our tagline for the Festival is ‘The Heart of Winter’ hence the competition title).
Theme: The Art of Winter… what makes Taupō so uniquely beautiful in winter… The work can be expressed in any aspect from realism, expressionism, surrealism or abstraction
Medium: All media are welcome, including photography, painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, mixed media and digital art.
Categories: We are keeping this as open and accessible as possible, so we have one open class, for all artists aged 16 and over.
Selection: All entries will be reviewed by a Selection Panel, led by Helene Phillips from Ferner Galleries. The Selection Panel will determine the entries that are included in the Exhibition.
Exhibition: All selected entries will be displayed in the Great Lake Centre from 15 to 17 July, with free entry for the public. Artists can elect to have their works available for sale.
Prizes: Rather than a traditional judging format, we will be running a ‘People’s Choice’ voting programme during the exhibition, with the winner receiving $500 cash (generously provided by Exhibition Sponsor, Le Pine & Co). The voting programme will be controlled with one vote per person (they are required to enter their details on the voting form). The Selection Panel may also award Merit prizes.
Timeline: Entries Open 7 June, and all entries must be received at the Great Lake Centre by 4pm, Wednesday 29 June 2016.
Function: All entrants are invited to join us at the Great Lake Centre for a morning tea/prize-giving at 10am on Monday 18 July. We will present the prize/s at this function, and you can collect your artwork at that time. All artworks must be collected from the Great Lake Centre by 4pm on Friday 22 July.
